A 2-Year-Overdue Game Update
It's Been More Than A Little While.
I've wanted to bring out this update for a long time. Really, I have. But since starting university, I have really struggled to find the time and the energy to dedicate to projects like these on top of the uni workload.
This update isn't all that much, compared to what I wanted it to be. I still have a whole to-do list of things to go through. But I've always been just a little bit haunted by the broken state the game was put up in during the jam, and the fact that I accidentally started going ham on adding content before I actually posted a simple bugfix version.
But it's here now, in some form or another.
It's been so long since the original came out that I honestly could not tell you what things I've added since then. I'm embarrassed at the old state of it, and don't really want to play it again to check. But at minimum, I can tell you that I've done:
- Ship starting values balancing
- Crewmember starting values balancing
- Crewmember personality values change a fair bit more
- Player starting values balancing
- "Establishing connection/intro" part at game start, to give the player at least a few seconds before anything happens
- Fixed the issue of repeating commands on the buttons
- Every button actually can do something now (depending on various factors, so now if it does nothing, it's probably because you're utterly hated and not trusted - hatred and being ignored as a game feature! yay!)
- Fixed typos that were there in existing text
- Added more events
- Fixed the fast-fade out issue on game-over from the jam version
- Added many different ways to game over and accompanying game-over messages, dear lord, why do I do this, people will not see them
- Probably other stuff I've forgotten, since it's been two years now
I still don't consider this complete. I still have a lot of changes I'd want to make, and additions as well. I've been chipping away at this update gradually over the course of about two years. Do I think it's worth it? For me personally, it is, even if only so this can be one less anxiety off my mind. For you?
Well, guess you'll have to play it to find out.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves!
